After your breakfast, our local guide will meet you at your accommodation, and start together exploring Fes the “the Spiritual City of Morocco”. You will spend the whole morning exploring the Medina and its alleys, visiting most of the sites with cultural and historical interest . Including the famous :
-Al Karaouine Mosque and University (the oldest in the world), which played in the middle ages, a significant role in the mediation of culture and knowledge between Muslims and Europeans. In the fourteenth century, 8000 students from the Maghreb and Egypt were trained in Fez. The university also played an important role in spreading the teachings of Maliki School, one of four Sunni Islamic sects, which has adopted the doctrine of Imam Malik ibn Anas, in all the regions of North Africa.
-The Medrasa Bouanania : An excellent example of Marinid architecture, founded in 1350-1357 by Abu Inan Faris.
-The Tanneries : Where the leather-making is done in pits that date back to the 11th century.
-The Najjarine fountain : The pretty place el-Nejjarine (Carpenters’ Square), best known of the medina’s mosaic fountains, and in the alleys that lead off the square is the Nejjarine Souk, where carpenters still chisel and carve cedar wood.
After lunch, we will drive you outside the Median to see the Royal Palace gate, walk through the Jewish quarter “the Mellah”, and then visit the pottery cooperative. In the afternoon, we will drive you to one of the fortresses to experience an amazing panoramic view of the whole Medina of Fes.
